The firm 'Lilli L. & R. Baitz' was founded in Berlin (Germany) in 1905 by Roman and Elisabeth Baitz. In the beginning they produced life-size dolls for stores in Europe and the USA.
Due to bombardments in 1944 they moved to Austria, first to Bad Aussee and in 1946 to the Vorarlberg area. From the towns of Lustenau and next Bregenz they again supplied the american and european market.
Over the years Baitz has produced a wide variety of dolls. From playdolls to life size christmas figures for big shoppingmals and churches, as well as historical scenes for the German and the American market; for example a 'Boston Tea Party' and 'The brothers Wright flying over the Atlantic ocean'.
After the second world war they started to make a range of dolls in national costume, very popular in Germany, Austria, Switserland and Scandinavia due to the increase of masstourism. Baitz also made fairytale figures like Snowwhite and dolls depicting certain professions like cooks and waitresses. Since the 1950's they added Cocktaildolls and 'Autopuppen' (?) to their assortment.
