Japan Hinamatsuri Dairi-Bina

Pair of matching Dairi-Bina or sitting imperial couple dolls, used for display on Hinamatsuri or Girls' Day festival on march 3 of each year. The emperor and empress are placed on top of the display with attendents and musicians on lower level platforms. This imperial couple is made kimekomi style; they are made of carved willow wood covered with pieces of fabric with the edges tucked into the grooves of the wood. Size 12 cm. No marks.
