Myanmar Wedding Dolls Bamar People

Matching couple of dolls from Myanmar (sometimes still referred to as Burma). Most likely representing the Bamar people, the largest ethnic group in Myanmar. The dolls depict a bride and groom wearing traditional wedding attire. Both genders are dressed in a longyi, a long piece of cloth worn around the waist, down to the feet. A longyi for men is called paso, for women it’s htamein. For ceremonial occasions like weddings the longyi is made of silk. The head wrap is called gaung baung. These dolls were part of one of the first donations I received.

Folklore is in the air… uhm… ear!

Postcard

No postcard available. There should be a nice postcard here that matches this doll, to show you how the people living in Myanmar are dressed in their traditional costume.

There is nothing suitable in our postcard books at the moment, too bad!

Happy collecting,
