Netherlands Friesland Province

Dutch doll wearing the costume of a wealthy woman from the Friesland province. This costume is based on what was fashionable around 1860. Typical is the bonnet or 'floddermuts' which covers the golden helmet shaped clip or 'oorijzer'. This clip - used to keep the bonnet in place - originally was small but grew bigger over time to show off wealth. The doll has a paper maché head and stiff legs, the rest of her body is stuffed cloth. Size 22 cm. No marks.
