Sri Lanka Sinhalese People 04
Two dolls both dressed in the Kandyan sari or Osariya as worn at festive or formal occasions. There are two main styles of wearing the sari in Sri Lanka; the Indian style (classic nivi drape) and the Kandyan style (Osariya). Both styles are spread all over Sri Lanka and are worn by Sinhalese women. Size 25 cm.
The doll in orange is marked by a former owner 'Ranjith Punchihewa, Zoo Gardens Res(t)aurant, Dehiwala, Ceylon. 6.10.1972'
The doll in green has a label in Sinhalese language under her stand that reads 'Women workers development committee report, Nawalapitiya'. Also 'Kauby Ceylon' on the inside of her skirt which most likely should be 'Kandy Ceylon'.
