Zimbabwe & Zambia - Makishi Masquerade (03)
Two dolls representing the Makishi. Makishi (singular Likishi) are masked dancers, spirits of deceased ancestors. The Makishi Masquerade is performed by the Luvale, Chokwe and Mbunda people that live in Zimbabwe and Zambia, which takes place at the end of the mukanda, an initiation and circumcision ritual that young boys of between 8 and 12 years attend. Size 25 cm and smaller. No marks.
