Belgium Doll Bruges with Cape
Costume doll from Bruges (Brugge) in the West Flanders province of Belgium. Bruges is well-known for it’s lace so you can find a lot of lacemaker dolls from there but this one is different. Dressed in a large black cape, called kapmantel in Dutch. Dutch is the main language in the Flemish region where Bruges is located. The doll has it’s original paper tag attached to the wrist which reads ‘Création C.O.V.A Handmade Belgium’. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any information about the maker.
Folklore is in the air… uhm… ear!

Postcard
Here's a postcard that matches this doll. It shows how the people living in Belgium are dressed in their traditional costume.
Text on the front of the postcard: 'Bruges'. Text on the back: 'Derrière Gruuthuse - Types Brugeois. Achter Gruuthuse - Brugsche oude vrouwtjes'. Not dated, it's a mini card, half the size of a postcard.
Happy collecting,
