Burkina Faso Doll Fetching Water

Doll wearing traditional dress, made of cloth over a wire frame. According to the seller it was brought back from Burkina Faso but it could easily be made elsewhere in West Africa. It looks like the doll is fetching water in a jar made of a gourd.

Folklore is in the air… uhm… ear!

Postcard

Here's a postcard that matches this doll. It shows how the people living in Burkina Faso are dressed in their traditional costume.

Text on the back of the postcard: 'Haute-Volta. Au marché, en saison sèche. Aimable sourire d'une petite vendeuse d'au'. Stamp removed, not dated but must be from before 1984. (Upper Volta was renamed Burkina Faso in 1984). Sent from Ouagadougou.

Happy collecting,
