Bulgaria Dolls Rhodope Mountains Musicians

Two male dolls made in Bulgaria depicting folk musicians. On the left a Bulgarian bagpipe player, mostly likely from the Rhodope Mountains because he is holding the traditional goat or sheep skin bagpipe; the kaba gaida. This doll has the remains of an original label under it’s stand. On the right a Bulgarian gadulka player. A gadulka is a tradtional folk string instrument played by using a bow (bow possibly missing). This doll has it’s original label under it’s stand that tells us that this doll was made in Pleven. The origin of his clothing is still unsure.

Folklore is in the air… uhm… ear!

Postcard

No postcard available. There should be a nice postcard here that matches these dolls, to show you how the people living in Bulgaria are dressed in their traditional costume.

There is nothing suitable in our postcard books at the moment, too bad!

Happy collecting,
